The headline pressure figure is not the only thing that decides whether a machine will clean well. Water flow, temperature, electrical supply and the type of dirt matter just as much.
Cold water is right for many jobs
A cold-water machine is usually simpler, lighter and cheaper to maintain. It is a good fit for loose mud, patios, building work, rinsing machinery and jobs where grease is not the main problem. A suitable detergent can still improve results.
Hot water earns its keep on grease
Heat helps break down oil, traffic film, animal fats and workshop grime. Garages, plant yards, farms, fleet operators and food-related sites often finish faster with an HDS machine because the water does more of the chemical and scrubbing work.
Pressure versus water flow
Pressure provides impact, while flow carries loosened dirt away. A smaller high-pressure machine can feel sharp at the nozzle but still be slow across a large vehicle or yard. For regular commercial cleaning, a balanced machine with useful flow is often more productive than chasing the highest bar figure.
Check the electricity before buying
- 110V: common for site-safe equipment and normally used with a suitable transformer.
- 240V single phase: convenient for many workshops, farms and smaller commercial premises.
- 400/415V three phase: used by higher-output machines and requires a suitable industrial supply.
